MPs of the so-called Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) addressed the Federation Council and the State Duma of Russia for protection in the face of "increasing pressure from Moldova."
This is reported by the Moldovan edition of Newsmaker.
It is noted that local deputies have appealed to the OSCE, CIS, European Parliament, International Committee of the Red Cross and the UN Secretary General to "influence the Moldovan leadership to return to an adequate dialogue and stop violations of the rights and freedoms of Transnistrian residents."
In the statement, local deputies noted that Moldova had started an "economic war" against the unrecognized PMR and accused Chisinau of deliberately blocking negotiations with Tiraspol. It is worth noting that since the beginning of 2024, Chisinau has canceled customs privileges for Transnistrian entrepreneurs. This caused a strong reaction from Tiraspol. Krasnosilsky called the duty a "medieval tribute," and the regional authorities organized protests in Tiraspol against Chisinau's actions.
Ukrainian journalist Andriy Tsapliyenko published a photo of the "declaration" and noted that the separatists were afraid to make a direct request to "join" Russia.
Transnistria did ask Russia for help in connection with Moldova's "economic blockade," according to the declaration, which is being circulated by Russian media. If the document is not fake, it means that they were afraid to make a direct request to "join" Russia. They probably decided to act gradually," Tsaplienko wrote.
Earlier, "Apostrophe" reported that Russia may use Transnistrian Moldavian Republic to block the grain corridor along the western coast of the Black Sea.
