Turning point: Ukraine has found a way to close the sky from Russian missiles

During a missile attack on January 23, the Ukrainian Air Forces managed to neutralize two dozen Russian missiles using radio-electronic warfare (REB) rather than Air Defense.

This is stated in the material BBC.

Although the result of shooting down the missiles didn't seem too high, the Air Defense Forces destroyed seven cruise missiles and one aircraft missile. However, about 20 more Russian missiles "did not reach their targets" - as a result of radio-electronic warfare.

"More than 20 were affected by REB means directly. And also, as already noted, there are low-quality missiles, that may simply not reach their targets and fall in the field," explained the Spokesperson for the Air Force Command of Ukraine's Armed Forces, Yuriy Ignat.

The material emphasizes that this is the first time Ukraine publicly announced such a successful way to counter Russian missiles.

"This is a qualitatively new approach in fighting the enemy, which is not to waste expensive surface-to-air missiles, but to use REB. This now makes it possible to affect not only the "Shaheds", but also the missiles," said General, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces, Igor Romanenko.

Radio-electroniс warfare has a wide range of applications and is aimed at affecting enemy devices with electromagnetic radiation and radio signals. The task of electronic warfare is not only to detect and suppress these devices, but also to protect our own troops.

The article also mentions the nationwide "Pokrova" REB system. A few days after the January 13 shelling, Colonel Andriy Starikov, Head of the REB department of the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces, said that "Pokrova" was already working. Although he didn't answer a direct question about whether it really covers the entire territory of the country.

"The system is advanced in the world, no one else has anything like it. It can influence the targeting of cruise missiles and partially - on the UAV "Shahed", - said the Colonel of the AFU.

We will remind, that a Russian missile strike destroyed the children's basketball school of SC "Lokomotyv".
