An exhibition titled "Victory Belongs to the Brave" is currently running in Kyiv, featuring works by contemporary Ukrainian illustrators from the Pictoric collective and the "Know Your Ukraine" traditional culture project. The exhibition explores military traditions through the lens of the Cossack past and reflects on values that remain vital today: dignity, freedom, and the readiness to defend what one's own.
This was announced by Gnat Korobko, a patron and co-author of the "Know Your Ukraine" project.
"What can ancient folk proverbs tell us about Ukrainian military tradition? They speak of courage, honor, dignity, freedom, and the readiness to defend what is ours. These virtues are more relevant today than ever. 'Victory Belongs to the Brave' is an exhibition of posters inspired by Ukrainian folk wisdom regarding Cossacks and warrior valor. It is a collaborative effort between contemporary Ukrainian illustrators from the Pictoric collective and the 'Know Your Ukraine' project, which focuses on Ukrainian traditional culture," – said Hnat Korobko.
He noted that, due to the war, folk wisdom from the past is taking on new meaning today.
"We wanted to show that folk wisdom is not merely 'words from the past.' Its messages resonate with us today. Ancient proverbs on the posters blend with modern art, acquiring a new resonance. We invite you to look at familiar words in a new light—and to see how, through them, the things that remain important to Ukrainians speak across generations," –noted Gnat Korobko.
The exhibition runs until October 8 at the "Sens" bookstore, located at 34 Khreshchatyk Street (2nd floor).
As previously reported, "Know Your Ukraine" is an online course on traditional Ukrainian culture that introduces children and adults to the major holidays of the annual calendar cycle. It is a joint project of the "Kolo" Charitable Foundation, the Ivan Honchar Museum (National Center of Folk Culture), patron Gnat Korobko, and the educational platform EdEra.
