It is necessary to close the skies of Ukrainian cities because Russia drops more than three thousand guided aerial bombs every month. In particular, in May, it dropped 3,200 units.
This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky at a joint press conference with Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez, Ukrinform reports.
"Russia uses more than three thousand guided bombs per month. This month, 3,200 KAB bombs were used, and next month 3,500 may be used. Thousands of bombs are falling on people's heads. No one, with any weapon in their hands, with any training, can withstand this," the Head of State said.
He noted that the situation could be improved by seven additional Patriot air defense systems. In particular, at least two such systems are needed for the Kharkiv direction. He explained that Russia is dropping such bombs on civilians and on the military from aircraft. If there are such systems, they will not be able to approach too close.
"I'm not talking about dozens of systems that are needed to completely close the skies over Ukraine, but to at least prevent Russia from using thousands of bombs," Zelensky noted.
He emphasized the importance of joint cooperation in this area so that partners can enable Ukraine to defend itself against Russia.
"It is important to understand that air defense is defense, not offense," he added.
As a reminder, on May 25, the Russian occupiers dropped KAB missiles on the Epicenter hypermarket, causing many deaths and injuries.
