Ukraine and Spain have signed an agreement on security guarantees. This is the tenth agreement of this type signed by Kyiv with Western countries.
This was announced by Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez at a press conference.
"We have just signed a political agreement that is very important. This is a treaty about the future, and it is an example of our determination to provide Ukraine with all the tools to ensure Ukraine's stability. We are already the tenth country to sign such a treaty with Ukraine, as part of the last year's G7 Declaration," he said.
According to Sanchez, Spain considers its security to be integrated, so there are several financial, military and industrial sectors between Ukraine and Spain.
Support, reconstruction, restoration and demining are the areas in which Spain will help Ukraine under this agreement.
"Spain has provided a lot of support over the past two years and is committed to another billion euros to strengthen Ukraine's capabilities. Of course, this is air defense in order to protect civilians, infrastructures, cities that continue to suffer from attacks," the Spanish PM added.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Spain for signing the security guarantees.
"I am very grateful for this, thank you for this agreement. It is indeed a significant strategic document. For this year, we have recorded 1 billion euros of military assistance, for the period up to 2027 - 5 billion for Ukraine from Spain through the European Peace Facility," Zelensky said.
The President of Ukraine added that Ukraine highly appreciates Spain's interest in joint projects on arms production and development of security technologies.
