Romania decides to transfer Patriot system to Ukraine

Romania will send the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine. The decision was made by the National Defense Council of the country at a meeting on Thursday.

This was reported on the Digi24 website.

The Romanian government decided to donate the Patriot system to Ukraine because of the difficult situation caused by Russia's air strikes.

"In view of the significant deterioration of the security situation in Ukraine as a result of Russia's constant and massive attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, especially energy, as well as the regional consequences of this situation, including on Romania's security, in close coordination with the Allies, the members of the Council decided to donate a PATRIOT system to Ukraine," reads a CSAT statement.

The report says that in exchange for the donation, Romania is asking its allies, especially the United States, to supply "a similar or equivalent system."

"This donation is made under the condition that our country continues negotiations with the Allies, especially with the American strategic partner, in order to obtain a similar or equivalent system that meets the needs of protecting Romania's national airspace," the press release said.
