North Korea plans to send engineer troops to Russia-occupied territories of Ukraine

North Korea will send military construction and engineering forces to the temporarily occupied Donetsk Region to restore infrastructure.

This was reported by the South Korean TV channel TV Chosun.

According to an unnamed South Korean official, the DPRK is expected to send large-scale engineering forces to the Donetsk Region in July. These forces will allegedly help restore infrastructure in occupied Donetsk.

The TV channel estimated that North Korea could receive up to $115 million annually from Russia if it sends three or four engineering brigades to the temporarily occupied territories.

In turn, analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) have not yet seen any evidence that North Korean military personnel intend to participate in hostilities in Ukraine.

As a reminder, North Korea released the text of the agreement signed with Russia during Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's visit to Pyongyang on June 19. It provides for immediate military assistance in the event of armed aggression against one of the parties.
