On the night of May 8, Russia launched a massive attack - a combined strike with cruise missiles and Shahed drones. Air raid alerts sounded in most regions of Ukraine, and there were hits to infrastructure facilities.

Kyiv and the region

The Head of the KCMA Serhiy Popko said that the enemy launched a missile attack on the capital, using cruise missiles Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 from Tu-95MS strategic bombers: "The air alert in the capital lasted more than three hours. The missiles approached Kyiv from different directions."

However, the Air Defense Forces destroyed all air targets in the capital. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties or damage.

The Mayor of Brovary, Ihor Sapozhko, said that a fire broke out at a civilian infrastructure facility in Kyiv Region: "According to the State Emergency Service, a civilian infrastructure facility caught fire in one of the settlements of Brovary district."

Lviv region

The Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration (RMA) Maksym Kozytsky reported that air defense was also operating in Lviv Region. He pointed out that the cruise missile was initially moving in the Khmelnytsky Region, heading west. Later, he wrote about another missile from Volyn heading for Lviv.

"Some missiles have changed course. They are moving to Stryi Region. Air targets are also being spotted in the direction of Chervonohrad district," he wrote at 05:13 a.m., asking for information silence. Later, at 06:34 a.m., he wrote about new missiles in the Stryi district.

Local Telegram channels showed a column of smoke that was recorded after the strike on Lviv Region.

Kharkiv

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that "Kharkiv is under attack again. Previously - by Shaheds."

"Suspilne TV channel reported explosions in Kharkiv at 02:52 a.m.: "An explosion was heard in Kharkiv, probably outside the city."

Poltava Region

There were also explosions in Poltava Region - Suspilne TV channel reported this with reference to its correspondents.

Philip Pronin, Head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration (RMA), wrote that there was a hit on an energy infrastructure facility in Poltava district, which caused a fire: “According to preliminary information, there were no casualties.”

Zaporizhzhia

At 04:35, the sounds of explosions were heard in Zaporizhzhia, according to Suspilne correspondents. At 04:36 a.m. and 04:41 a.m. the residents heard repeated explosions. The enemy hit critical and civilian infrastructure - there is destruction, but no casualties, said Ivan Fedorov, head of the RMA.

Ivano-Frankivsk Region - explosions were reported at 04:56 a.m.

Monitoring channels reported a missile in Ivano-Frankivsk Region heading for Yaremche.

Vinnytsia Region - a missile was reported in Vinnytsia Region heading for Ladyzhyn. Later, there were also more missiles fired in the direction of Ladyzhyn. It is known that critical infrastructure was hit. This was reported by the Head of the Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration (RMA) Serhiy Borzov.

Poland took aircraft to the skies

Because of the Russian attack on the night of May 8, Poland had to take off its aircraft, the Polish Armed Forces reported on social network X. They wrote the following:

"Please note that Polish and allied aircraft are operating in the airspace, which may be associated with increased noise levels, especially in the southeastern part of the country."

It was noted that at night there was intense activity of Russian long-range aviation related to missile strikes on targets located in Ukraine.
