To deter Russia: Germany to order more than 100 new Leopard tanks

Germany plans to spend almost 3 billion euros for the purchase of 105 Leopard 2A8 tanks.

This was reported by Reuters.

The purchase is part of NATO's plan to deter Russia. At the same time, the project still needs the approval of the Bundestag.

The Bundeswehr plans to receive these tanks between 2027 and 2030.

It is noted that some of the tanks will be used to equip the German combat brigade in Lithuania. It was created as part of NATO's plan to deter Russia.

According to the documents, most of the purchase was unfunded since there was insufficient money in the regular budget and in the 100-billion-euro special funds established after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The German Defense Ministry is requesting extraordinary financial authorization for this procurement due to lack of funds.

Earlier, Apostrophe reported that Romania decided to transfer Patriot system to Ukraine.
