At least 111 people were killed and more than 200 injured as a result of the earthquake in northwest China.

The earthquake struck about 100 kilometers southwest of the capital of Gansu province, Lanzhou. It is reported that additional rescue forces and officials from the local emergency department have been sent to the region.
The US Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 5.9, while Chinese authorities gave a higher magnitude estimate of 6.2. Local media reported that water supply systems, roads, houses and other infrastructure near the epicenter of the earthquake suffered various degrees of damage.
